Ancient Mug with Mysterious Script Found on Mount Zion A 2009 archaeological dig on Mount Zion uncovered a limestone mug with an inscription in multiple obscure writing systems, including Cryptic A from the Dead Sea Scrolls. The mug was found in a Jewish home destroyed by the Romans in 70 C.E., and likely used for ritual purity. Scholars believe the inscription had a religious or mystical purpose, possibly involving divine names. The find illustrates the spiritual and linguistic diversity within Second Temple-era Judaism.
